Free app that translates. Very handy indeed. Copy, paste, translate.
Very cool, very efficient, very slick! Although based on Googles own translation databases, this app allows one to quickly access those databases and get results. Convient, with a pull-down menu. Well done! Although the developers website doesnt list Latin as one of the supported languages, it appears in the actual app itself, as it was only recently added to Googles list of languages.
With the development of Google Translate it is now easier than ever to translate text between different languages and listen to foreign languages. Now for a long time there have been some issues with the translations not moving over completely perfect but in most cases its pretty close, still allowing you to get the idea or point across. Well now with Translate Tab you can access all this translating power right from your Macs menu bar at the top of your screen. No matter what windows or applications you have open just click the Translate Tab icon and Google Translator pops down over every window. You can even set keyboard shortcuts to launch the app. If you are someone that uses Google Translator quite a bit for business or communications then this little application will really speed up your day. It just allows you to have Google Translator on standby all the time and in just a few seconds you can have text translated into any of the 57 languages that it supports. Now I do have to point out that the base software that is being used is Googles, the only thing that has been changed is placing it in a menu drop down compatible with Macs. So really not that much has been done if you think how long it would have taken to recreate a translator application. But its still an incredibly useful app that saves you time and after all time is money.
Very easy to use, I do not have to do several manipulations again like opening the browser and going to google translate page. All this in now available directly from this small tab ! 5 +
Please change the color of the menu-bar icon to match other ones, its darker.
Best investment yet. Quick access to what I always need. Browser access on Google Translate is not very nice, if you access it all the time. Save time with this app. Continue developing!
Works like a charm and it is quite convenient having it stationed almost invisibly in the menu bar. It would be nice if there were more languages.
Very Very Nice , Its One of Best App Store Application .
I love how I dont have to keep Google Translate open all the time, and it saves everything when I remove focus from the window. Its great! Edit Version-1.0.2: After cleaning my computer I decided to take a look at Activity Monitor, and I noticed that Translate Tab uses Adobes Flash Player plugin, and eats a constant .6% of my processor. Id like to see this app rewritten to be more efficient, and to stop using Flash. This is not an acceptable processor usage if its always open.
After months of swapping my screen back and forth to google translate, I found this little app. No longer do I need to open a web browser to translate. The tab is always there no matter what program I am using and has been invaluable. Now all we need is an offline version of the same thing - then I give 6 or 7 stars! Using Lion 10.7.3 and have had absolutely no problems. Quick and Easy!
…a lot of the time I have to restart my computer to get it to pop up again… that I have a big issue with. For the most part it gets, most translations. Now if it would quit crashing I would be a fan. Instead, Im aggravated.
Its exactly what you expect — a simple little menu/tab in your menu bar. It also installs itself as a system-wide service (a VERY underused facility of Mac OS). Its small, unobtrusive, and always ready at hand when you need it.
The actual layout of the app is different than it shows in the pictures above. Instead of an image saying "Google Translate" at the top there is a row of links to other Google services (Search Images Videos Maps Translate More…) that does not do anything when clicked. Also, while I appreciate that it shows the pronunciation when translating Chinese to English, there is no padding between the translation text and the language selection buttons below. There is, however, a whole lot of empty space along the bottom. There is also a strange floating toolbar (that exists on the regular Google Translate site as well) that you can drag around on the Translate Tab and really shouldnt be there. It looks like Google updated their Translate site and the app developer failed to update their app afterward. It is nice to not have Google Translate constantly open in Firefox (Im an expat living in China) but the app needs some attention from its developers.
If you use the Google Translate iPad version, you may be a little disappointed (iPad bigger, better viewing). I had trouble at first figuring out the Copy and Paste function. Youll have to use KeyBoard commands to Paste. Also could get the" Translate selection with Translation tab" to work. Maybe operator error. Not sure whats up with the Googe Translate banner on the App Store preview but not on the app itself. Glad they didnt put it in. Wouldnt have been enough room in the "Tab"
This application that lives in the menu bar is extremely convenient for translating from English to other languages and vice versa. It helps me a lot with my Chinese homework. Translate Tab is worth the money! P.S. Please add support for the MacBook Pro with Retina display.
This tool is great for quick translations. But can updates be made to include the option to see examples of the word being transalted within a sentenace? Also, it would be great if there were options to select words to be translated within other applications outside of Apple (like Firefox and Word). Overall, it is a great application that needs some minor tweaks.
It will only read aloud about one sentence. Some other minor bugs.
Much nicer and convenient than going to the Google Translate website. Would be great if it was updated just so we know its still being worked on.
I was skeptical since it hadnt been updated in a year. But theres nothing to add or to fix. I wanted Google Translate in my menubar and thats what it is.
